     Don't be shaving on them anymore. They are valuable. My father's collection is worth over half a million. Leave them alone until you know what you have. There are poker chip conventions routinely. Try attending one to learn more about chips. Bring your collection and let the traders gander at them. Don't act dumb.    I have a black leather box with clay poker chips in it embossed inside HICKOK any clues how old or where made?
   The box is about six inches long and three inches wide. The poker chip about one inch in diameter. Has wear and tear indicating some age.The name is embossed on the inside top.It is not hinged but a set on lid.

   Is 200 dollars too much money for 1000pc 12 gram clay poker chips?
   I found them online and are 160 and then 40 dollars shipping and handling and it also contains the 1000 pc carrying case. So i just wanted to know if it was worth it for someone who plays poker every week and plans on having tourneys weekly.

     Heck yeah 0 is WAY too much for a 1000 poker chip set! You can get 1000 poker chips on eBay without a case for 0.

     The 1000 set with a case is 0.

     There is a 1000 14 gram set without a case for 8.88 which includes shipping. They have denominations ranging from to 00 which will only add to making it feel like you're playing a WSOP or WPT tournament.

     I have a weekly poker game every friday and give everyone 15200 in chips. The blinds are 100-200 that double every 13 minutes. I give everyone 57 black (0) chips and 19 red (0) chips. That's 570 + 190 = 760 chips. I have green (00) and white (00) chips...76 green and 19 white = 95. I have the chips in a plastic chip tray...the ones you see at the poker rooms. You don't really need a case to store the chips. The trays will make it easier for you to chip up people and get the chips ready for the next game.

     Good luck in your choice of chips. It can be a 11.5 gram chip set like I have. If you choose this, you can get a chip set for around 0. However, a 12 or 14 gram set would be adequate as well. I personally think having the denominations on the chips is essential. That way, everyone knows how much each chip.

     I'd actually recommend the ones they sell at Walmart. When I bought mine there were two different sets, the regular and the deluxe. The deluxe set ran me and has chips that are way nicer than you'd expect. I'm not sure what the exact chip count is, but it's been able to accommodate 7-8 players.

     Anyway an amazon search for "poker set" brings up quite a selection and glancing through it I'm seeing some pretty nice looking sets in the -40 range if you're looking for higher quality.

      Dont buy at a retail store,buy online.there are so many sites to get chips, look for some based in vegas. you can get nice sets pretty cheap these days.And make sure you get chips that weigh at least 13.5 grams,nicer quality and last forever, the same weight as casinos.

      honestly? awful chips.
      depends what you're going for. do you want casino like feel or just checks to keep track of money?
      those chips are not clay, they are made of a composite plastic material in china and have a metal insert in them. they are heavier than casino chips and they sound awful with a metal clank.

      save your cash (unless someone else bought them for you). you can get the same quality on ebay for dirt cheap.

      if you're really interested in quality chips, there's a site called chiptalk. there's all sorts of answers for would be chip aficionados. plus they have a classified section where you can get much better quality.
