     It really depends on what sort of game you want to play.

     Do you want to play tournaments with your friends? Perhaps you want to call the white "100", the red "500", the blue "1,000" and the green "2,000". set up a tournament and have some fun.

     Perhaps you and your friends want to play a CASH game where the chips represent real money. Again, you'd still need to decide what sort of cash game you want:

     Are you actually going to play for pennies, nickels and dimes? If so, white = pennies; red = nickels; blue = dimes; green = quarters.

     Do you want to play for bigger stakes? Red = nickels; blue = dimes; green = quarters; white = dollars.

     You get the idea. Think about what sort of game you want to play, then make each denomination worth whatever will suit your game.

     I agree with both above. Tournament chips have no value outside of the tournament itself. However, T-chips may have some collector value to serious die-hard tournament players and Vegas memorabilia hounds. It's rare to find T-chips outside of the tournaments themselves.
     It's going to be hard to find their collector value, though. You need to find a Vegas memorabilia dealer or do some serious online research, like E-Bay and collector sites. It's a very specialized market. If you Google poker chips or tournament chips or other such terms I'm sure you can find the tournament those chips are from. After that it's a matter of finding the right collectors or brokers for chips.

   Someone gave me a couple of poker chips...trying to find their actual value...if any?
   I have several poker chips....they have a number and Canada written on the face of them. Behind that is a white maple leaf on a red background. My friend said that someone gave them to her last year after he went to a casino. They don't look familiar to me.

     If they were from a real casino they will have the casino name or logo printed on them. Ifthey have a 20 or 100 on them that usually is their value. Unless you can find out what casino they came from i wouldnt suggest taken them in anywhere to get cashed. Alot of 'fake' poker chips can look like casino quality. Ask your friend where he got them from. Also after a year the casino may have switched out their chips, gotten new ones or use a different color so they may not even be able to cash them.

    Why do people value play money chips on Poker Sites?
    I understand the concept that, if you want to learn poker, or just want to enjoy it without the risk of losing money, play money poker is the way to go.

    What I don't understand is why people often ask for chips from other players, why people would consider buying them, or why people play "all-in every hand" style poker just to accumulate a huge stack.

    I can't see any reason why playing 10,000/20,000 no-limit would be any more rewarding than 1/2 no-limit, when the chips aren't redeemable for money. And, since you can always get free chips from the site, why does it hurt to lose your precious stack of 15 million chips and start again with 1,000?

    The worst consequence of this strange obsession, as I can see it, is that this kills any learning value in playing poker for fake money. It seems people will do anything to get more chips... anything except play sensible poker, that is!

    Can anything be learned about the game by begging chips off of strangers, or plunging your whole stack into the pot with a 48 offsuit after a flop of KKQ double suited, especially with the full knowledge that half the table intends to call you?

    Can someone please enlighten me to this strange phenomenon?

      I never sat at the big dollar ring games in the play money sections, but I did play the sit and goes up to the top level. I can tell you that the players at the top limit play money sit and goes (at Pokerstars) are about the same ability level as the low limit real money players. So in my opinion, if you can build up a big stack and beat the highest limit sit and goes, there is some value in that. You will be prepared to sit at the micro limit tables and start building a real money bankroll.

      As far as begging for or even purchasing play chips, I agree with you. There isn't much value in building a huge amount of chips if you're not really going to play poker. But, I could see someone trying to get to the highest limit sit and goes ASAP just to see if they cut it. That would be reasonable, but I doubt most of the people you are talking about are doing that.

      So yeah, in general it's probably pretty stupid. I guess you could mirror it to Yahoo games (like pool) or other video games where everyone is trying to get the highest score even though they don't get anything out of it beside enjoyment, but you're not going to become a great poker player begging for chips.

      Generally the lightest color chips are the least amount and go up. It's easiest to remember this way also. i.e.: whites Red: blue: Green: Black: 0 you can adjust the denominations according to what the stakes are.

      Are you planning on setting up "No Limit" tournaments or running a small cash game? That will make a big difference in how you set up the denominations and how much you give each player.

      If you want to run a tournament, do an on-line search for "how to set up a no limit Texas Hold 'em tournament". There are tons of great articles already written about this on the internet.

      ***Tom - Here are some great sites you should check out. As far as the actual value of each chip, try this for a TOURNAMENT: White = 100; Blue = 200; Red = 500; Green = 1,000. If there are 5 people or less, go with 10 White, 10 Blue, 8 Red, and 6 Green. (That's ,000 in chips to start.)

      For a cash game, I still can't really tell you what to do since I don't know how much you want to play for. Do you want to buy in for .00 each? Then go with Red = 5 cents, Blue = 10 cents, Green = 25 cents, and White = .00. If you want .00 each, just multiply that all by 10.

    Also, how do you earn more than one braclet? I know that you only win a braclet at a final table, but how many tables does it take to get through to the final?

      I'll answer you second questions first. In 2007 there were 44 events where you could win a bracelet. So If you play in 15 - 25 events each year you have a good chance to win a bracelet every couple of years (only if you are a professional player). For example Phil Hellmuth has only won the "big event" once, but he has 7 bracelets because he has won other smaller events.

      For the chips, I do believe that the yellow's were 1000 (they do change colors/value for year to year on the higher denomination chips).
